• Sin da giovanissimi, i ragazzi e le ragazze che studiano sono costretti ad avere una tale attività intellettuale - attività che tocca sovente i campi più disparati - che non riescono più a dominare il proprio pensiero. È questa agitazione mentale che più tardi impedisce loro di elevarsi al di sopra del piano astrale e mentale e di percepire la realtà del mondo spirituale. Colui che vuole assaporare le realtà spirituali, deve per un istante sospendere l'attività del proprio intelletto. I saggi dell'India hanno ragione quando dicono che l'intelletto è l'uccisore della realtà. È al cuore che è dato di conoscere la realtà; è però necessario comprendere che il cuore in questione non è il cuore fisico e nemmeno il sentimento. Quando gli Iniziati parlano di "intelligenza del cuore", in realtà designano l'anima, l'unica che possieda la facoltà di percepire l'essenza degli esseri e delle cose.

When initiates speak of the 'intelligence of the heart', they are really referring to the soul, which alone has the ability to perceive the essence of beings and things.
• Schon in sehr jungen Jahren werden Jungen und Mädchen in der Schule dazu gezwungen, eine stark intellektuelle und oft nicht zusammenpassende Aktivität zu entfalten, die bewirkt, dass sie nicht mehr in der Lage sind, ihr Denken zu beherrschen. Diese mentale Unruhe wird sie später daran hindern, sich über die Astral- und Mentalebene hinaus zu erheben und die Realität der geistigen Welt zu empfinden. Wer die geistigen Realitäten kosten will, muss seinen Intellekt einen Augenblick lang einschläfern. Die Weisen Indiens haben recht, wenn sie sagen, dass der Intellekt der Mörder der Realität ist. Mit dem Intellekt kann man viele Kenntnisse erlangen und ohne Ende nachdenken, aber man bleibt an der Oberfläche. Nur das Herz hat die Gabe, die Realität zu erkennen. Allerdings muss man verstehen, dass es sich dabei nicht um das körperliche Herz und auch nicht um das Gefühl handelt. Wenn die Eingeweihten von der »Intelligenz des Herzens« sprechen, so meinen sie in Wirklichkeit die Seele, die allein die Fähigkeit besitzt, das Wesen der Geschöpfe und der Dinge wahrzunehmen.

  Celui qui veut goûter les réalités spirituelles, doit mettre pour un moment son intellect en sommeil. Les sages de l’Inde ont raison quand ils disent que l’intellect est l’assassin de la réalité. Avec l’intellect on peut accumuler beaucoup de connaissances et raisonner sans fin, mais on reste à la surface. C’est au cœur qu’il est donné de connaître la réalité. Mais à condition de comprendre que ce cœur n’est pas le cœur physique ni même le sentiment. Quand les Initiés parlent de « l’intelligence du cœur », ils désignent en réalité l’âme, qui seule possède la faculté de percevoir l’essence des êtres et des choses.
