Congiungere le mani / Praying - bringing mind and heart together / Prier - joindre l’intellect et le cœur

Congiungere le mani è uno dei gesti della preghiera, ed è un gesto colmo di significato. La mano destra e la mano sinistra che si uniscono rappresentano l'unione dell'intelletto e del cuore, del pensiero e del sentimento. Grazie alla sua luce, l'intelletto trova la migliore richiesta da rivolgere al Cielo,e il cuore, con il suo calore, sostiene quella richiesta. In quanti dei loro quadri i pittori hanno rappresentato persone in preghiera,  anche bambini e angeli con le mani giunte! Questo non significa che per pregare si debbano necessariamente congiungere le mani fisicamente, no, perché non è il lato fisico che conta, ma il lato interiore. Occorre unire l'intelletto e il cuore, e più in alto ancora lo spirito e l'anima, poiché è la loro unione che fa la forza della preghiera.
Bringing the hands together is one of the gestures of prayer, and it is a  gesture full of meaning. The right and left hand coming together represent the  union of mind and heart, of thought and feeling. The mind, thanks to its light,  finds the best request to make to heaven, and the heart supports this request  with its warmth. There are many, many paintings where artists have depicted people in prayer,  even children and angels with their hands together! That doesn't mean that in  order to pray you have to physically put your hands together, no, for it isn't  the physical side that counts but the inner. You should bring mind and heart  and, higher still, spirit and soul together, for it is that union that gives  prayer its power.
Die Hände aneinanderzulegen ist eine Gebetshaltung und diese Geste ist  bedeutungsvoll. Die rechte und die linke Hand, die sich aneinanderlegen,  stellen die Vereinigung von Verstand und Herz, von Denken und Fühlen dar. Dank  seinem Licht findet der Verstand die beste Bitte, die an den Himmel zu richten  ist, und das Herz unterstützt diese Bitte durch seine Wärme. Auf wie vielen  Bildern haben Maler betende Personen dargestellt, sogar Kinder und Engel mit  gefalteten Händen! Das heißt nicht, dass man unbedingt physisch die Hände  aneinanderlegen muss, um zu beten, nein, denn nicht die materielle, sondern die  innere Seite zählt. Man muss den Verstand und das Herz und noch höher, den  Geist und die Seele aneinanderlegen, denn ihre Vereinigung bewirkt die Kraft  des Gebets. 
Joindre les mains est un des gestes de la prière, et ce geste est rempli de  signification. La main droite et la main gauche qui se joignent représentent l’ union de l’intellect et du cœur, de la pensée et du sentiment. Grâce à sa  lumière, l’intellect trouve la meilleure demande à adresser au Ciel, et le  cœur, par sa chaleur, soutient cette demande. Sur combien de leurs tableaux les peintres ont représenté des personnes en  prière, même des enfants et des anges avec les mains jointes ! Cela ne veut pas  dire que pour prier il faut obligatoirement joindre les mains physiquement,  non, car ce n’est pas le côté physique qui compte, mais le côté intérieur. Il  faut joindre l’intellect et le cœur, et plus haut encore l’esprit et l’âme, car  c’est leur union qui fait la force de la prière.
