In equilibrio fra spirito e materia gli individui e le società trovano la pienezza.. / Spirit and matter - necessary to find a balance between the two / Esprit et matière - nécessité de trouver un équilibre entre eux

• All'origine di tutti gli squilibri, vi è quello fra lo spirito e la materia; è questo squilibrio a trascinare con sé tutte le altre forme di anomalie che si possono constatare nell'esistenza. Lo spirito e la materia sono due poli, due principi con i quali l'essere umano deve saper agire intelligentemente, ragionevolmente, prudentemente. Se non è raccomandabile imitare l'occidente, che ha messo l'accento sulle acquisizioni materiali a detrimento dell'anima e dello spirito, non va seguito neppure l'esempio dell'India e di altri paesi che per secoli hanno accettato di vivere nella miseria, nella carestia e nella malattia. Occorre dare allo spirito e alla materia il loro rispettivo posto: non rifiutare la materia, ma renderla sottomessa e obbediente allo spirito. È in questo equilibrio fra spirito e materia che gli individui e le società trovano la pienezza.
• The origin of all imbalance is the lack of balance that exists between spirit and matter. It is this lack of balance that brings in its wake all the other kinds of anomaly we see in existence. Spirit and matter are two poles, two principles which human beings need to know how to work with intelligently, sensibly and carefully.
  While it is not advisable to emulate the West, with its emphasis on material acquisitions to the detriment of the soul and spirit, neither is it advisable to follow the example of India and other countries where they have put up with lives of poverty, famine and illness for centuries. We have to give spirit and matter their respective places: not reject matter but ensure that it submits to spirit and is obedient to it. It is by balancing spirit and matter that individuals and societies are able to flourish. 
• Am Anfang aller Missverhältnisse steht das Ungleichgewicht zwischen Geist und Materie; es verursacht alle anderen Formen von Anomalien, die man im Leben feststellen kann. Geist und Materie sind zwei Pole, zwei Prinzipien, mit denen der Mensch lernen muss, intelligent, vernünftig und umsichtig zu handeln. Es ist nicht empfehlenswert, die westliche Welt nachzuahmen, die, auf Kosten von Seele und Geist, das Hauptgewicht auf die materiellen Errungenschaften gelegt hat. Aber man sollte auch nicht dem Beispiel Indiens oder anderer Länder folgen, die sich damit abgefunden haben, Jahrhunderte in Elend, Hunger und Krankheit zu verbringen. Man muss Geist und Materie ihren angemessenen Platz geben und dabei die Materie nicht ablehnen, sondern sie unterwürfig und gehorsam gegenüber dem Geist machen. In einem solchen Gleichgewicht zwischen Geist und Materie finden Individuum und Gesellschaft ihre Entfaltung. 
• À l’origine de tous les déséquilibres, il y a le déséquilibre entre l’esprit et la matière ; c’est lui qui entraîne à sa suite toutes les autres formes d’anomalies que l’on peut constater dans l’existence. L’esprit et la matière sont deux pôles, deux principes avec lesquels l’être humain doit savoir agir intelligemment, raisonnablement, prudemment.
  S’il n’est pas recommandé d’imiter l’Occident qui a mis l’accent sur les acquisitions matérielles au détriment de l’âme et de l’esprit, l’exemple de l’Inde et d’autres pays qui, durant des siècles, ont accepté de vivre dans la misère, la famine et la maladie, n’est pas à suivre non plus. Il faut donner à l’esprit et à la matière leur place respective : ne pas rejeter la matière, mais la rendre soumise et obéissante à l’esprit. C’est dans cet équilibre entre l’esprit et la matière que les individus et les sociétés trouvent leur épanouissement.
